Senior Clerk / Chambers Administrator

About the Role

Chambers of GD Tetteh is seeking to employ a Senior Clerk to manage and support
the practice across multiple areas of law. The successful candidate will play a
key role in practice management, business development, client relations, and the
day-to-day operations of Chambers.

Key Responsibilities

Practice Management

  • Manage barristers’ diaries, court commitments, conferences, and travel arrangements.
  • Allocate work strategically across practice groups.
  • Monitor case progress, deadlines, and client expectations.
  • Support barristers with practice development and workload management.

Client & Solicitor Liaison

  • Act as the primary point of contact for solicitors, courts, and clients.
  • Respond promptly to enquiries and provide availability information.
  • Maintain strong professional relationships to encourage repeat instructions.
  • Handle sensitive and urgent matters with discretion.

Fee Negotiation & Billing

  • Negotiate fees for privately funded work.
  • Manage Legal Aid rates and compliance requirements.
  • Oversee billing, debt management, and credit control.
  • Provide regular financial performance updates.

Business Development & Marketing

  • Identify opportunities for business growth.
  • Support seminars, events, newsletters, and online marketing.
  • Maintain barrister profiles, CVs, and directory submissions.
  • Assist with tenders, panel applications, and client engagement initiatives.

Operational & Administrative Support

  • Support the efficient day-to-day running of Chambers.
  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and pupillage administration.
  • Maintain accurate records and compliance documentation.
  • Coordinate facilities, supplies, and IT requirements.

Skills & Competencies

Essential

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational ability and attention to detail.
  • Commercial awareness and confidence in fee negotiation.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities.
  • Professionalism, discretion, and reliability.

Desirable

  • Experience in a multi-practice or specialist set.
  • Knowledge of court procedures and legal terminology.
  • Experience with chambers management software such as LEX, BarSquad, or Meridian.
  • Understanding of Legal Aid processes.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Previous experience as a Junior Clerk, Second Clerk, or Senior Clerk is highly advantageous.
  • Candidates with legal administration or practice management experience may also be considered.
  • Strong literacy, numeracy, and IT skills are essential.
